Handcrafted in our small workshop at Sylvaura Grove, this 11 × 11" red oak shadow box is designed specifically for showcasing preserved butterflies, moths, or other delicate natural specimens with lasting elegance and protection.
Solid red oak frame – finished with a low-VOC, water-based stain that complements any decor while minimizing chemical exposure to your specimen.
UV-resistant plexiglass front – blocks harmful ultraviolet rays to prevent fading of wing colors and scales over time, keeping your piece vibrant for decades.
Acid-free foam board backing & pinning surface – archival-quality materials ensure no yellowing, degradation, or chemical interaction with your specimen.
Shadow-box depth (approx. 1.75") – provides ample space for raised pinning, while still providing a sleek, gallery-like presentation with 2 1/4” total frame depth.
Ready to hang – includes mounted sawtooth hardware for wall display and turn buttons to secure to the back panel.
Perfect for a single large Cecropia moth, a small grouping of butterflies, or your own custom specimen.
Each box is handmade with care, ensuring thoughtful craftsmanship from start to finish.
Dimensions: 11" × 11" exterior
Weight: approx. 2–3 lbs (lightweight yet sturdy).
Care tip: Display in a stable, low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight for best longevity. The shadow box is not airtight, please seal at your own discretion. If you do seal the shadow box, we recommend using a neutral-cure (non-acidic) 100% silicone sealant, or archival linen / framing tape as a more reversible option.
Check back later this summer for this season’s beautifully framed specimens!
